On again off again......
Service Engine Light...... Comes on for a few days then goes off, then comes back on a few days later, then off again..... Could this be air getting into the fuel system, i.e. gas cap leaking???
Any advice

You're going to have to be more specific. Start noting things like when it happens most - when turning, cold or hot, accelerating, braking etc... Try to narrow down what triggers it. Something as simple as an O2 sensor wire loose could trigger it. Like to help you out but need more info.

Which car is it on? I'd recommend stopping by AutoZone one day when it's on, and having your codes read (what's causing the light) for free. If you give us the code it reads, we'll be able to help you from there.
And welcome to United Bimmer.
