My E46 Engine Problem
Hello guys, I am EmKay, a new member in this community. I have problem on my 318i 2.0 E46 N42 engine. I have sent my car to workshop to repair the water pump because of leaking (the mechanical seal worn out). However, after the repair, I noticed the engine become too noisy and make make me wonder what was actually happened. It is very hard to describe about the noise. Can any one help me on this?
Can you describe the noise? Click, tap, chatter, whistle?
I am not familiar with the 318 engine, but the most common noises on the six cyl engines are the tensioners (actually the tensioner pulleys) on the serpentine belts. He removed the belts, so disturbing old tensioners may have made one start to chatter.
I recently replaced the water pump on the wife's 330, and it developed a sort of odd whistle or moaning sound. I suspect that I created an air leak, perhaps in the rubber hood over the throttle body. Those get old and brittle and crack eventually. The car runs perfectly so I have not spent much time looking for the problem yet.
What else did they replace? Did they replace the serpentine belt as well? Its possible that due to age its worn out and is causing the issue, or their is something on the belt like fluid causeing the issue.
