New Here!! Need A Little Techinical Help
Hey Everyone My Name Is Joey
I Own A 2001 325ci And Recently It Stalls For No Reason On Start Up But Only When Put In Gear. It Idles Fine But As Soon As It Is In Gear It Stalls.. Its Not All The Time Ethier. After A Few Stalls It Runs Fine For Long Periods Of Time. I Put An Obdii On It And It Gives Me Cam Sensors Error. Would The Car Even Idle If The Cam Sensor Was Bad And Would It Even Run At All Or For Long Periods Of Time?
Thanks In Advance
Joey

MY camshaft pos. sensor went bad a while ago, not that expensive, fairly easy to install, hardest part was to connect it since the connection is under the intake manifold...

Unless you can get a read out that states intake sensor or exaust sensor you are going to have to replace them both. It will be a 5mm hext bolt holding it on. They are both on the front of the cylinder head and are failty easy to get to. Just make sure that you tap the 5mm into the bolt so its secure. You do not want to strip these.
The exaust camshafter sensor is easy to do. The Intake is a tid bit harder beucase it has a longer wire on it. Both your sensors might be mad causing your car to misfire and stall out. if only one was bad it should only cause a check engine light. It shouldnt cause your car to stal out.
Also BTW is your check engine light on. Thats a helpful hit that it might be your sensors.

thanks.. the check engine light is on. but it does go off sometimes.. It is probably safer to replace both.. BUt with a OBDII will it tell you which sensor? with a code or something?
thanks for the great info

I don't know of any, but if you do it yourself and create a DIY of your own (after you figure it out of course, haha), that'd make a great addition for our United Bimmer Knowledge Base and would help out other people later on.
However hopefully someone else will reply with more information on how to do it, or a link to a DIY.
