Gotta watch for the paint chipping when hundreds of people of the opposite gender run and jump on the car (and you).

Ive seen alot of cam shaft sensors being replaced in E46's. They will cause a check engine light and I believe cost aroudn 50$. Not counting the 90$ dealer charge for install. The rims are pretty weak (what bmw rim isnt) so watch the pot holes. Window regulators are always being replaced.
Some other things Ive seen replaced:
Intrument clusters
bushings
water pumps/ thermostats
engine belts
final stages aka blower resistors (control the a/c fan speed)
Theres alota 3 series in for check engine lights too.

Whys that, all he really does is park cars and deal with customers. Well thats all that they do at my work, then usually walk around and get in the way.
I also forgot to mention there is a campaign out for E46 sun roof shades, the clips that hold it on break and cause alot of damage, they are replaced very freiquently. If your purchasing the coupe a campaign is out for the door seals, they casue a squeeking noise and both your door gaskets would be replaced. Free of charge I believe.
