Bmw 318 radiator fan not kicking in !!help me!!

Please help, i have had my 318 2000 model for a year now, i had problems with small coolent leaks which i recently had fixed, now the radiator fan is not kicking in and if the car is slow moving or idle it overheats :tdown but when the car is about to overheat something under the bonnet makes a funny noise, the noise is not at the fan itself, it sounds like its coming from down near the right hand side of the engine. the noise sounds like the fan is trying to kick in, the noise has got to defo be something to do with the fan as it only happens when the fan is due to kick in. help me please :conf many thanks oh and the heating has been quite erratic 'blowing at different speeds and warm air when its set to cold, its been like that since i bought it, i just thought it needs re gassed' help me please.
ps- i have also bled all the air out the coolent system and still no joy :tdown

try spining fan to see if it spins freely without anything stopping it if doesnt spin on its own with nothing stopping it then your fan motor would be knackard in which case myt be an idea to replace fan
