Mysterious 8 wire/10 pin Connector Under Front Ashtray/Cubby Console!?

What the heck is this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNwP1N5v1q0

I saw it when I was installing the navigation retrofit wire harness & monitor and assumed it went to the HVAC and I forgot about it. This week I saw it again when I was installing the SMG Steering Shift Paddle wiring in that location.

Only then did I realize it didn't go anywhere or connect with anything else in the area. Also it is impossible for it to reach the regular non-Nav HVAC location or the Tranny box area. In fact it is on a real short wire bunch that entends about 3 inches from the firewall hole into the cabin car. It could only reach under the ashtray or sunglass/cubby holder area. As well as the console switch button bar cluster. But it doesn't connect to anything.

I also noticed it was NOT wrapped up and tucked away like most pre-wiring connectors (I.E OEM Bluetooth) are. It was just sitting there in the mix looking up at me.

If anyone knows what it can be thanks in advance!

BTW this one has stumped all the experts at other BMW forums.
