Temperature sensor

Hi. I own a 2002 325i. I'm having a problem with my temperature sensor. it's saying "-40" when it's probably 80f outside. i have no problem with the temperature inside, it's just the giving me a wrong temperature reading. what can be the problem?

Ambient temp sensor in the front bumper, check wiring, could also be a dead sensor. Check wiring first though, those sensors are NOT cheap
