Ignition problems/ STARTER??? IDK

So the other night after leaving a meeting, I couldn't start my car. Its done this before on different ocasions. but just a lil smack of the key or placing the key in the ignition and charging it for a couple seconds then turning over the car. But now it will turn on all the dash lights and the battery is at a 12.4 charge(good) so im thinking its the key sensor or it is the starter??? The key will turn the ignition but wont try and turn over at all, and I do hear a click every time i try and turn it down under the intake manifold behind the alternator which is where the starter is located i think.

If anybody has had similar problems or is a tech and has some usefull information I would greatly apreciate it.

I had a problem in my old Benz a few years ago. It was hard starting at first. Then, as I drove at night, things slowly began to turn off. In order: radio, heating, interior lights then, eventually, head lights. The car still drove. By the time I reached the bottom of the driveway, the engine stalled out. My battery was fine, but it was my alternator that was the problem.

Its not exactly similar to yours, but perhaps applying a volt meter to your alternator (or starter) would better locate the issue. That's what I did. Good luck.

Sounds like a dying relay or key switch. Could be a key reader. Have you installed anything or changed anything before it started happening?
