330i auto tourer tranny/ps fluid

Hello all.

My car is about eight and coming up to 95K miles. I've had the car from nearly new (about 10K miles) and was wondering what the general feel was about changing the transmission fluid. I am not that handy and therefore this is a question as to whether to pay a garage to do it.

From what I have read it would appear that BMW's initial stance is that the fluid does not have any interval change and should last the life of the car. For all this sounds great I also know that the fluid looks very murky and almost like liquid charcole. I have had one incident the other week where a loud wurring noise seemed to be coming from the engine, although louder in the car than outside. The steering had a sort of gyrating noise and when turning to almost a full wheel lock it sounded like the engine was going to stall. This in true style was not evident when I took the car to a local garage - but I would say now that I can hear a different tone from the engine at low to idling speeds. Now a friend has mentioned that the water pump is probably on its way out and most others suggest that the power steering pump is also likely to fail. SO... firstly does anyone have experiance or advice on this and secondly should I pay for someone to change the fluid. I have seen some articles where people strip down the transmission to clean magnets and all sorts of things, but it appears that the fluid in the torq convertor does not get drained and therefore the pricey stuff (about £10 per litre) will soon get mixed up with the dirty stuff. There are also some out there that suggest replacing the fluid expansion tank and hoses.

So much info, and yet not much sense! A big thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this for me. My chassis number incase it helps is: ju50147
