Woo hoo, first post!

Hello united members!
Thought that the first post should be of my nice shinny Bimmer!

I'm considering getting an intake/chip. Can't find any good quality dyno results on Conforti/shark vs GruppeM/teckniqe(sp?) setups. Gotta dig deeper I guess...

Very nice. I love those rims... one of the best looking OEM on any 3-series, almost RG-R looking.

I'd suggest the Dinan intake because of the sound more than performance. The thing is silent at low rpms for normal driving, but when you floor it to show off, it ROARS.

Yea, I considered that, but when it came to location, being lowered, driving in NJ, I'd rather have an intake where the inlet is a bit higher off the ground than the Dinan variation.

I will tell you this, on Komodo9's car it was lowered to hell on the ground, the intake was never an issue even being mounted low

Not even in the rain or or a few inches of standing water? Any figures on that? i.e., before and after?

Well, not of just the intake. I also have a Borla X-Pipe, which greatly changes the sound... maybe someone else here has a clip of just the intake...

My first post, but.

I really like the GruppeM intake on the E46, it sits behind the driver's side headlight. It's what I have on my 325 and I dig the roar it gives. Of course GruppeM is pretty pricey, so there are now tons of knock offs on the net.

I've heard nothing but good reviews about the GruppeM also.

dinan has a great sound... very exspensive though.. your best bet is to buy a tube on ebay.. and just get the dinan air filter... i don't understand why they cost 400 bucks... just because they are CF??? ehh!

Well, I've heard Komodo's intake and he isn't lying when he says it roars if you floor it. It really does.

For myself on the other hand. I went with an E-Bay brand intake and the only sound differance is when your about 1/5th throttle, you can heard the valves open up and a slow "shhhhh" of air being pulled in. Then you floor it the sound goes away for the most part, you might get a little more reverberation just because there isn't a big air box to keep it all in.

You see, my main concern with that dinan style intake is as mentioned earlier, being so close to the ground, should I have to ford through water for some reason (yes, I've had to do it before) I would be really worried about getting that wet. Plus installation is a bit harder than just an intake in the engine bay. I don't want to screw up the front bumper.

So no one likes the conforti? I only ask because it has a unique design, imo, where it still uses the orignial vent from the kidney grill that the old box used matted to a newer box with foam filter and CF tube.

I still don't understand how the GruppeM works with reguard to "cold" air. Though I've read somewhere that it has MORE "gains" than the Dinan. That boggles my mind. No source of cold air, and more gains than the one drawing direct cold air?

Sorry, I had email notifications turned off.

Anyways, here is a link to Samir explaining how GruppeM works, as far as I know, he was the first to introduce GruppeM to the US shores, and he is US retailer for GruppeM, even though he is not completely public about it. He is a pleasure to work with since I bought my intake from him, and he is very knowledgable about BMW's in general.

Edit: As you noticed, the thread is from 2002, lol, so some of the pics might not work anymore.
