e46 drivers door lock problem?

I have recently bought a 99' 323i and the drivers door lock does not work when using the the key on the outside nor does the keyless entry. I am now unable to lock my car properly. i have searched many other threads but have not managed to find a solution yet.
if anyone had any ideas, they would be much appreciated

it might be the lock actuator. $400 part i believe. You have to take out the window assembly to get to it.
or it might be the sam eproblem as my car?

does the door open from the inside. cause if so you might have a broken..well the cable that pulls the lock from the outside.
