Ignition failing to come on

Just got a 2001 325se touring.

Really happy with it apart from a problem which is now getting worse and worse. The ignition is failing to start when the key is turned to the number 2 position. The airbag light comes on and radio and windows work on number 1 but when I turn to number 2 nothing changes. Have tried with both keys just in case it was a key problem.

I have to keep trying until all of a sudden it will all fire up as normal.

Hope some one can point me in the right direction.

maybe a battery. Although the smptoms for that is headlights flashing and starter clicking.

does your Check Engine light come out after you start it up?
If so take the car to a oil change place(like oil changers 3000 or something) and get a free OBDII code reading.

That might give you more answers.

Battery is all fine.

When the ignition does finally come on and I then start the car it all runs fine and their are no warning lights.

Think hooking it up to the computer is the next step.

Just in case anyone is getting the same problem it was the ignition switch. Simple really

Thanks to your help and a new ignition switch my car is now sorted, i had the same problem but it started with just the abs light not coming on. cheers!!!

hi i have the same problem everything works until you try to start it when you say ignition switch do you mean the barel or is the switch different ?

mine started working again now but I changed the switch anyway so hopefully shud have no further problems

I have the same problem too. my everything switches on but doesn't crank and there's no beeping sound when key is in the ignition. any advice on DIY?

in the post above all the problems hav bin ignition switch so i wud try that first or get garage to test it
