What are you trying to remove, the bolt on the top? If so, you need a spring compressor to shorten the spring and a impact gun w/socket to remove the nut on top. If it moves while you try to remove it, try a vice plier on the shaft and lay the strut on the ground so the vice holds it.
If you try to take the nut with the spring without compressing it, you will have to pay a visit to the doctor 'cause it will slap the hell out of you . I know there are alot of DIY's here that can definetly explain it better than me and also you can check this spot http://www.bmwe30.net/cgi-bin/datacg...096&Section=05
Good luck

There's a special tool for it, but I didn't have it and I don't know where to get it.
