Drifting

Well I tried drifting/sliding on the 328i auto today and it was really exciting (My first time drifting). I didn't know it was possible to drift on an auto lol. Well anyways, I think Im getting addicted to it... But ugh does it really shorten the life of my tires?

try to do it in a wet parking lot, where it is easier to lose traction and start slow and work up carefully.

Yea goto an open place where you won't endanger anyone. Yes it will eat tires. If you like it you might want to consider going to the racetrack and doing some drivers schools the BMWCCA does schools and they are well done and teach you how to drive your car at the limit on the track and are a BLAST!

yea in terms of your tire life, dont ever do it in the dry b/c that will just eat away at them, in the snow or in the rain, not as much

I drift in the snow and ice cause it wont fuck up my tires. The only real problem is its easier to lose control. Plus even with an auto u can just grab the handbrake.

I think the latter versions have a couple of levels but I have never seen any documentation to prove it.

yes!!!!

i actually tried it our today....330 gets sideways in .5 secs with it off in the rain.

countersteering a breeze with the small lock to lock ratio on the rack(as apposed to the old E30 318 rack[which is now a Z3 rack])

also there is a thread on another forum with a huge list of E46 tips and tricks..bunch of stuff i didnt know the car did. ill copy it later
