if it can fit into an e30 m3 engine bay, it can fit into the e46 engine bay.

I know that an E46 M3 engine will fit into an E36, so I would assume it would fit well into the E46...

Now the question is.. Would a 540i engine fit into an E46?

If someone can fit a v12 from an 850csi into an e30 you can do anything if you have the cash to do it.

Ditto. You could fit a jet turbine engine in there if you had the right tools and mech. know how.
