How to open the door? It's locked - HELP
96 328 - 4 door.
My rear driver side door is locked.
It does not open from outside or from inside.
I think the release machanism is gone.
Central locking opens / closes all doors except this one.
How do I open the door so that I can take the panal out to see what's going on?
Appreciate any help you guys can give.
Does the lock not move at all? (the little plastic thing) Or are you able to pull it and then it is pulled back in? Is it not possible at all to unlock it? If this is the case, then you should be able to unlock it by disconnecting teh battery.
Otherwise, I am really not sure that I can be of any help right now. I will have to take a closer look at my doors to try to help. Sorry,.
Plastic thingy moves up but drops right back. I also tried opening from outside while someone is unlocking the door from inside.
I never thought of disconnecting the battery, maybe that'll work.
If the car's locking system is pulling the lock back in, then something must be messed up in the sensor/status switch circuitry (the details for which I do not really know). If there is no power delivered to the system, then you should -- in theory -- be able to pull the lock up and opne the door.
If it is mechanically stuck, then you may have a bigger problem tahtn I initially thought :(
Locked rear door
I had the same problem with the rear door on my e36.
The dealer fixed it within an hour, it was a faulty door lock actuator.
But before you pay for the job doing check out this website (be accurate with the address)
All the best,
Yea i would think its the actuator.
It definitely sounds like an actuator. He just needs to able to open the door to get to it. Hence my suggestion to undo the battery. My guess is that it worked, and -- like many before him -- decided not to come back once his problem was solved.
