E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Alright, only my passenger heated seat element works and I want to get a replacement for my seat, but they are no where to be found. WTF? Pelican Parts doesn't have them, and I can't even find it on RealOEM.com. I'm pretty upset and my ass is really cold. Any help would be appriecated. Thanks guys.

When I drove a 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage with vynil seats and no power steering, was restricted by school/immigration rules to no more than $1,540/yr of income, and ate Ramen at least once a day I still did not have the nerve to say I was poor.
I know that buying from the dealership is expensive, but thyankfully heated seats are not indispensable. Another option is to call bavauto and ask them to special-order the element for you. Usually there is no charge -- it just takes a couple of weeks to get your stuff.
Take some fairly decent seat heater pad thingy that most people would strap to the top of their seats. Steal the element and wires from it and rig it up to fit underneath the seat cover and into the factory switch.
I'm pretty sure it could be done. But is it too ghetto?

the ghettoness is all in how well the work is performed. if you can get it in there and it works and has a nice presentation? well then thats good repair work. totally not ghetto.
make sure u dont start your seats on fire with the ghetto rig.
other then that it sounds like it would work.

I am down with this idea. Just double-check that it won't turn out just as expensive (or even more).
C1apton, right now, I just don't want to spend $100 on something that I don't really need. I'm really just looking for a cheap project for the winter. I think.
Oh and swapping the seats is a no go. They are specific to the side of the car.
