Purchase NEw Differential

Ok so im also looking into purchasing a New Diff ok well i just got under the car and looked to see that is was a 3.91 ? is there a upgraded version of this? or a better ratio for the e36 auto?

I'm assuming you want a higher rear end ratio for quicker acceleration. I think you'll have to go custom since a 3.9 gear was the highest used for E36 cars. Manual transmissions were available with a 2.93 (328i) 3.15 (325i) 3.23-3.43 (M3)..........etc. These are all lower and would make your car a dog off the line.

see if you can find a 4.1

so the lower the number the faster the accelleration?,
4.1 would be best ?>

The higher the number (3.9+) the faster the acceleration. Lower numbers (2.93-3.15) will lower your rpms at speed and give you a higher top end mph.

i dont think there is any point to getting a new diff with the auto. if you did a 5spd swap you would have crazy accelleration with the 3.91:drive2

yea i kinda figured that after these last couple of days of lookin up info etc.. , damn i hate myself for not buying a manual.:doh
