Cheap transmission, lol

Well, it's been a while since I've been on here...

I've been Bimmer-less for about a month (blew the transmission).

So I got the quote for pats and labor from my local transmission shop and it was $4,469.07. I guess the clutches were shot, the rear planetary and a host of other parts. Not only do I not know what the hell those things are, but they're too much money, lol.

So in the search for a new transmission, I found www.phoenixhardparts.com. More specifically, the link to my tranny is here: http://www.phoenixhardparts.com/inde...PROD&ProdID=49. It's a GM 4L30E.

I paid $1,860.00 including the $550.00 core charge and the $260.00 shipping. This includes the shipping to get mine back to Arizona to get my $550.00 refund for the core charge.

The labor to put the new one in, including the seals, gaskets, fluid, etc is $1,015.00.

So the tranny minus the core charge, plus the labor is $2,325.00.

In case anyone blows a tranny and needs a rebuilt one, this is the cheapest I could find.

Wasnt sure if anyone could find this useful....

I should have my baby back a week from today. UGH...

I should ask the garage to take some pics just for fun....

It went at 106,000 miles.

I'm torn between keeping it (and risking it f'in up again) and trading it in (for something other than a Bimmer)....

This blows...

Yeah, you should do that. You won't regret it.

Rooz doesn't, nor does anyone else who turned to the e46.

why waste moeny on another pos gm auto tranny? a blown auto is the perfect time to put in a 5 speed zf. the 5spd can often be had with a new motor for $1500. a tranny alone should not be much more than $5-700.

thats good and all, but I mean if you dont want a manual then..

That seems to be really low miles for a tranny to blow. I mean most e36 auto trannies probably have the original fluid, and the filter hmm.. with a lot more miles.
