Unhappy emergency flashers

The emergency flashers are flashing and I cannot turn them off. Yesterday the crash sensor relay was replaced but after 100 miles the flashers came back on. I pulled the fuse to stop flashers (I could do without emergency flashers) and now I have no turnsignals. My wife was driving onetime ,when the flashers came on by themselves. When she hit a bump in the road they stopped, leading me to think a relay, loose wire, or a bad connection. I spoke to my service tech about disconnecting battery. He didn't know how this would work but at this time I am willing to try anything. If this works what about the next time the flashers malfunction?

From the Common Faults FAQ:

Quote:
-On some E36’s, most notably the ’95 M3, a faulty circuit in the safety relay can activate the hazard flashers and unlock the doors while going over bumps in the road.
