E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I have a 95 325IS everything is pristine on it, everything was working fine, 3 days ago this started. Put on the left turn signal it works properly, turn on the right turn signal and all the signal lights flash as though the hazzard light switch was turned on, I noticed this because both turn arrows on the dash started flashing at the same time when signaling a right turn ,
Any direction to start troubleshooting would be a great help. All lamps are lighting so it is not a bad lamp. Possibly a bad flasher relay?

I don't have much in the way of a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, so I'll just suggest the simple approach. Just try taking out the bulb in question from its socket and then reinsert it, that might scare away any little gremlins. Also, although you didn't mention it, if this is a replacement bulb for one that had burned out, it may be the wrong one. I had a situation in which I had a burned out one, went to AutoZone to get a replacement, they looked it up on their computerized database no less, found what they listed for my car... and it turned out to be the completely wrong bulb, which I discovered when the signalling started to go completely crazy on me, similar to your situation. Good luck.
Pull the bulbs on side in question and check & clean the sockets. If they are corroded they will short and cause that reaction. Also a bulb that has shorted out (filament broken or crossed) will do that. My guess is moisture or corrosion in one of the sockets on side that causes "dual arrows" - especially duing temp changes like spring & fall.
Thank you, I am sure the lamps are BMW I did take out the signal lamps to check them, I bought the car in May from its original owner who had everything done at the dealer He kept a note book of EVERY service invoice and all the info for anything done to the car.
Thanks a gain for your input.
c1apton , Thanks I will start there, we did get a serious rain and temperature change on Saturday, and I think thats when it started to act up. will let you know how it works.
Thank You !
Well Thanks for all your help I traced it back to the Flasher relay,
All lamps were good all connections clean, all pins metered out at the relay socket, I went to the Wheeler Dealer and the flasher relay was ONLY $89.00. I know I could have done better on line but I'm going out of town and needed to fix it .
Thanks again to all of your help everyone!!!
You all are what makes this place great
