Wheel shimmy at uber-high speeds
I know that wheel shake at certain speeds will sometimes indicate different issues. But I don't have much experience with very high speeds because I rarely go beyond 75. The car runs smoothly up to that and higher, but the other day I had the chance to take her up to 115mph :woot wherein I started to experience a little shimmy-ing. Any guesses as to a culprit? I'm figuring wheel balance, since my ball joints are fine and my CAB's are fairly new. Tie rods, maybe?
Oh, and before you ask why I didn't go all the way, I ran out of road :doh |
Wheel balance is my first guess

idk, but mine shakes a little (1/4" each way) between 30 and 70. but not during braking. who knows.

I'd say it was wheel balance also. If you plan on crusing often at the 90+ mark -> get high speed wheel balance.

Well.....*cough*
That's what a supercharged, headers, long tubed...(*i.e. heavily modded*) Cadillac CTS-V was in for a week ago. The guy wanted the Cadillac Manager to test it out at 115mph. We legally can't do that, but the Manager was up for a race against one of our e60 M5 or our e39 M5. But I would have gotten into trouble. If we still have our e60 M5, I'm going to see what I can do next month. :D Prolly check your tires balancing. |
could be also tierods, because mine are completely gone and my car is showing similar symptoms.
