The auto/manual switching (in sprort mode) sets later upshifts and earlier downshifts based on throttle setting

yeah it alsogets rid of the overdrive gear, because when I go from 3rd to 4th the revs stay EXACTLY the same. Or maybe my car is screwed up haha

Maybe I read the question wrong, but the A/M switch shouldnt make the gears longer or shorter.

The M means it's whatever position your stick is at. If you're in D1(with the M switch engaged), then you get first gear only. D2 (with the M switch engaged), is second only (WITH NO FIRST) and D3(with the M switch engaged), is third only with no first or second. Its just that one gear you get.

I know when you put it in D3 (with the A switch engaged), it latens the shift point and takes 4th away.....

Hope this helps.
