A Known Instrument Cluster Problem
Lok-Na-Rok!
So I've got a problem that is well known but I couldn't find solution for it. First the instrument needles started falling and then the cluster started again doin it's checks and stuff like if u r putting ur ignition key in 2nd possition. Then it started doing strange things like only the speedometer working or everything without the fuel level gauge working and stuff. I used the search egning but couldn't find how to fix it. So time for conclusions: The problem is in the cluster itself and everybody knows that. For me it's a waste of too much money to buy a new one and second one is kinda stupid idea as it could stop working any minute. I've read that it sometimes fixes for a while if u change alternator and stuff after it that makes the voltage steady... Then in another forum I've found some guy said in the cluster there is something that makes the voltage steady(or something like that) again and it should be replaced. So if the problem is in the voltage somewhere it seems logical to be this one. I am going to try this one today with a friend but still it would be nice if u share ur opinion, thoughts and suggestions with me. Thanks in advance. |

Read this link http://www.peakeresearch.com/siboard.htm . If this is a problem with the E30, it could also be a problem in the E36.

The Pelican "101 Projects for your e36" web page has the instructions for removing the dash cluster. In the article, it mentions a number of things that can cause cluster malfunction. Several of the known problems are not within the cluster itself.

I had this problem. For some time, the needles all fell down, but junped up again and all worked well. But this weekend it all went dead except from the speedometer showing 20km/h to much, even det odometer shutdown showing just "pppppp".
I went and bought a secondhand, and it all works well, except i made the mistake getting a instrument panel from a 4 cylinder and not a 6 cylinder that i got. Andybody know if its possible to reprogram the instrument panel from 4 to 6 cylinder? And how i can make it read the mileage stored in the car and not the instrument panel itself? |
