M3 Exhaust
Well, it's done. For those who didn't see my other thread, I picked up an M3 catback for $100, no more crappy sounding 14yr old muffler. Had to clean up a couple of minor rust spots on the outer casing (nothing serious), and I primer'd it gray. The swap was easier than I was prepared for- the bolts came right off, no problem. But my rear hangers are a little worse for wear, so I gotta replace them soon. And yea- it bolts right up with no modification needed; it does hang a little lower than the OEM, only because it's slightly bigger.
The results? I LOVE this thing! Nice deep tone, not obnoxious at all. I don't know if it's given me better throttle response or if it's a performance improvement at all though, can't really tell yet . . I do know that I've been a little heavy on the gas pedal just to hear it roar :D And I'll have to see if it does anything to my gas mileage. http://www.blinkfile.com/1369/m3_tips.jpg EDIT: I just did some research on this, and the only "mod" that should be done is to change your exhaust hangers to the stronger M3 version. It hangs the same way, but they're built to handle the heavier weight of the M3 catback. Otherwise, I'm told that the stock exhaust hangers will eventually break. |
Congrats. Looks good. Maybe a sound clip!

Sweet man, was it used...haven't been on in a while. Ya i would be a little heavy on the foot as well. Looks great :rock

Very nice man!!! Congrats!!!
Did you buy it new? |
you can't buy an e36 m3 exhaust new for $100 man
not trying to be a prick, just letting you know. |
I believe they run about $700 new. Even just the OEM stock exhausts are about $300 new. This one is off a '95 with about 110k on it . . hey- it's newer than my car at 150k :lol I figure if it lasts me 10-15k, I'll be happy.

Who on this site isn't a little heavy on the gas pedal, our cars invite us to every time we take our foot off the brake. And you must post a sound clip. Or we will kill you. I want to hear it.

Good to know :D

Nice M3....

Very nice it does have a good exhaust note.
And M3 exhausts are notorious for breaking exhaust hangars, on both a 3er ad an M3. Just a side note, the only improvement you\'ll ever get out of adding an e36 M3 exhaust is the tone. It\'s actually a negative factor to performance because it gives no gains and weighs qutie a bit more than your factory exhaust. |
