OK so i just got back from driving my car from school, e36 1993 325is.

and I saw that this line was broken

the green arrow is pointing to it, it's like cut in half, what is it!!!!!!!!

Mercenary(FH) 08-24-2006 12:27 PM

btw my car was driving fine......and I didnt see any smoke....but it cant be good

DEATH2000 08-24-2006 12:35 PM

Thermostat is right there isnt it? Was there any fluid leaking out?

Mercenary(FH) 08-24-2006 12:40 PM

I didnt see any fluid leaking, and my coolant levels looked fine, and I assume......oil wasnt leaking cause if it did, my engine would be smoking from the burning oil, but it wasnt

Ok false alarm, it was some kinda hose that just recycles used oxygen but it doesnt affect my car besides idle, i took it took a BMW specialty repair shop (and volvo's vw etc..) and they said it might affect my idle, but basically all I was doing is polluting the air more, I knew my car didnt seem to drive any differently

Hard to tell exactly what the arrow is pointing to. It looks as if it is pointing to a vacuum hose that is connected to the breather connector at the valve cover and the other end connects to the ICV valve under the intake manifold.

that's a vaccuum hose right there. they come undone, get old and break, it's not unusual.

wow, how do you drive a 93, your engine DOESNT have vanos, let me show you a pic of an engine WITH vanos

xsperf 08-24-2006 04:51 PM

see the difference, the little bulge in the front

Mercenary(FH) 08-24-2006 06:21 PM

thats not my engine, thats just a googled pic.

arent 93's supposed to have VANOS

Mercenary(FH) 08-24-2006 06:25 PM

Ok question then, what exactly is that Silver thing then?

xsperf 08-24-2006 08:57 PM

the silver thing is just your valve cover, and in that certian area, under the silver thing is the timing chain, btw, the silver thing extends accross the whole engine, its just that there is a black plastic cover with the letters BMW written on it, and yes 93's do have vanos, do you have the bulge in the front?

Mercenary(FH) 08-25-2006 11:17 AM

yeah i got the bulge. so it's not my pistons or cams that perhaps could be making a knocking noise, cause I tracked it down to the silver thing....and it makes a vibraty /knock noise when i rev up and the car is like revving down, of course it doesnt do it ALL the time
