E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
No fault codes? Getting fuel pressure? How about the throttle position sensor? Hmmm, what else . . think how hot it is today, and the humidity, maybe that'll give ya more ideas . .
as far as im concerned, TPS sensor would let it start, and he says that it wont start unless given gas, meaning that the TPS sensor does work(if the engine will rev up it works), im thinking just like you said, something with fuel pressure, are your fuel lines clogged, fuel pump, and i dont think its the injectors b/c that would mean that all 6 of them got dirty/clogged at the same exact time

you say you shorted the relay and the fuel pump worked, and you replaced the relay and that didtn work, well its probably the wire that goes to your relay that supplies the 12V when the key is in the ignition , if i were you, i would look up the wiring diagram for your car(manualsunlimited.com is a good place) and trace that wire back, see if its cut

yea most likely, thing that is not making sense is that the car wouldnt start even when i heard fuel spraying inside the engine and heard the pump going..
are you sure its not another problem, other than fuel?
well since the pump was not running before and when i shorted it, it ran, im assuming that it is fuel related.
i did pull a spark plug to check for spark but im not sure if i checked correctly.. i could not get it to spark but im not sure if it was seated in the coil pack all the way.
I seriously doubt it's the wiring at the back end of the sockets; not much can go wrong there. More likely you'll have to trace back further beyond them. You checked for constant voltage (12v) at pin 30 on both the DME & fuel pump relay sockets, right? I'm starting to think it isn't fuel related.
dudesky, should he have constant 12V voltage, or is it only when he puts the key in? sorry but ive dealt with so many cars w/electrical problems and recently that was the problem, either the wire is cut, or corroded or something
