Blew a strut.... options?

I blew a strut coming home from Fenway park. Man... 95 north is CRAP!!!:ranting

So, what are my options? I could go OEM, but what fun is that?

Any aftermarket performance upgrades come to mind?

I dont want to spend a million bucks...

Bilstein Sports - (ask Mullethunter & check out her DIYs)

Well if a DIY works, here's a great one: http://www.unitedbimmer.com/forums/t...tml#post116173

Bilstiens or Konis

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:07 PM

I know how to do it myself, and I already have the spring compression tool (had to buy one for a presious car)

It's looking like even some ghetto Monroe Sensa-Trac's are about $225 a set. how do Koni's or Billsteins compare? Can anyone give me a model or part number for them?

celsdogg 07-19-2006 07:07 PM

im getting bilstien tourings. they are cheaper than OEM struts, and they are 15% stiffer than OEM. ..

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:13 PM

Okay so Bilstein is over $500.00 for two. I need something a lil cheaper. Maybe $350.00 - $400.00 MAX.....

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:16 PM

Found the Koni 1130-1201 kit, but there's no price on their site......

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:19 PM

HAHAHA, yeah... the Koni's are almost a grand.

Looks like I'm getting ghetto Monroe Sensa-Trac's.

Thanks all!!!

Later.

bilstein touring struts are $85 for the fronts and $65 for the rears. . . $165/$85 for bilstien sports. maybe your looking at entire suspension kits?

a lot of those have springs as well, and may even be the ones where the height is adjustable on the fly. i just looked at bavauto.com. when i was looking for struts, they had the best prices, even among pelican and autohaus.

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:25 PM

celsdogg, where? What model? Thanks in advance....

celsdogg 07-19-2006 07:27 PM

i went to bavauto.com, looked up a 1996 328i, and looked under suspension. you can also just search for strut.

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:34 PM

Wow... $ 184.85 shipped.... for the pair.....

Celsdogg is my new hero.

Thanks a lot man!!!

I guess it's better than ghetto Monroe's huh?

Alpine328i 07-19-2006 07:37 PM

Hey, do I really need that kit they sell too? The "now that you're replacing your struts, you might want to also replace some blah blah blah" kit?

celsdogg 07-19-2006 07:38 PM

i thought monroe's were for american cars mostly! :dunno

gl with ure install. there are tons of great, new DIY's, courtesy of mullethunter :)

edit: not sure if you want that or not. maybe someone else could shed more light on it. however, i am probably going to get it (altho $50 seems kinda steep) because my car is 16 years old and they are probably rotting away.
