Check Code Light

Brake Lighting System/Circuit or something to that effect. What does that usually indicate? Besides the obvious that something is wrong with the brake lighting system/circuit. Suggestions?

Also, what about an occassional 3 beeps from the front left vent area?

Arigatouuuuuuuu.

If it went out next time you turned it on, it went away, it was just some moisture in the tails triggering a code. the occasional three beeps is the memo system. Used in europe 2 minutes before the hour to alert ou to tune to the hourly traffice reports.

^^^Errr, 15sec before the hour

BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE means you have a bulb out.

BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT means there's a problem with the wiring, or the switch on the pedal is faullty. Sometimes it's just condensation, as chris mentioned.

It was Brake Light Circuit.
All my brake lights were working.
And, it went away once I shut the car off (didn't come back one when restarted a few minutes later). It was still raining a little bit when it happened, so I'm thinking you are probably right with the condensation guess. Anyway to seal it off so moisture doens't get in there?

I'll keep my eyes peeled to the clock the next time I hear those beeps, too.

The seal goes bad between the tail light assembly and the car body. Don't know if you can actually buy that gasket, never looked into it. But you can use silicone or something else I guess.

It's the switch on the pedal, just have to replace that. It won't come back after you start it, but it will usually when the brake pedal is touched. Had it happen to me as well.

Isn't brake light circuit failure the switch, my car does that sometimes and I bought the switch, that is connected to your brake pedal, and now it works, I forget where I found the DIY I believe it was bimmer forums. It seems to be a common e36 problem.

crap forgot to hit send link like 10 mins ago, but same thing tj said

Thanks folks. I will have to look into that and see if I can fix it before my trip up north.

Kind of off topic, but kind of ON topic...

Any recommendations for what to use to re-seal the tails? I have a leaky front corner too. Not leaky... but the seal's bad and I get moisture... you know what I mean... HAHA

Will OEM gaskets fit aftermarket lights?
