E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I got back from Atlanta last night, car wasn't runnign for a all day (I went to Atlanta with a rental). And this morning when I go to start my car, the engine won't roll over, my baby won't crank . And with my luck my dad took our portable starter with him to work about 2 weeks ago, but luckily my neighboor had one of those old school battery chargers, it might take a good while, but it's charging it as we speak. But what I don't get is why my battery was drained

we were playing bball one night on a court without lights, so we all pulled our cars up and used the headlights (yeah, good fun), but then like 10 mins later, i tried to turn my car on.. nothin, yeah so we just push started it... so yeah headlights are killer, but with HIDs its suppose to last 3 times longer?? maybe

Whoa, really? I always thought HIDs used more power...
when i turn on the headlights the engine sounds normal, but when i turn on the foglights you can tell the engine has to work harder, theres like a screach, its been like that for a while, alternator?

Actually HIDs draws 12,000 volts initially to turn on which is 1000 x more than what you battery has reserved for Headlights, but once on the HIDs draw 1/3 the juice compared with Halogens. This is the reason when you turn on your HIDs you see an extra flash of extra bright light (sometimes green for the 6k'ers) for a split second before your lights become normal. In fact the Ballast is what keeps your battery from "exploding" (I use this term creatively) everytime you juice up your lights.
As for the fog light and engine jiggle (sound) connection...I also experience the same thing as well. My engine jiggles as if reving up when I turn them on. My engine also jiggles the same way when I power my windows up all the way and keep my finger on the button, or when I turn my high beams on and/or turn my AC/Heat on all the way up....
not sure what this means but....hopefully its not a bad sign or trouble ahead.
