This is getting really tired. Only less than 2mos ago I had to get towed home because of a busted radiator. Now I'm sitting here at work waiting for another tow. Car started, then immdeiately died. It'll crank all I want, but the engine won't start. I traced it down to a failed fuel pump

The odd thing is, my car alarm no longer works either . . . must be coincidental

jeez i know how it is,, im having mixed feelinga about mine ATM i just dropped $350 on a set of four tires and not tto mention the 250 i spent on the tool +bushing and bearings. jeez and thats in 2 weeks.

I am still needing Shocks and struts and the Adjustable rear arms so my tires wont wear out as much. gawd!

Update for those who give a crap . . I don't know what was up with the alarm, but I had to go in behind the glove compartment to reset the damn thing. At least it works again.

As for the pump, I missed Pelican's 3pm cutoff time for overnight shipping, so I won't see the part till Thu

Funny, I just ordered belt tensioner pulleys from them a few hours earlier, should have delayed that and got everything in one box. But basically, Pelican humped me in the ass for a good $220 today

Sometimes I wonder if it's really worth dumping all this money into the car, since I won't see it back even if I sell it. So I guess for better or worse, we're stuck together . . for a while at least

D-sky, don't get the blues bro - mods & maintenance are similar - they do little for resale $$$. A record of maintenace is the "saving grace" for BMWs (as Rooz can confirm with his sale of his car)
It could be worse - Ferrari 308 - belts break - cost = $3300, 30k service = $12k

damn sucks man, happened once on my old 325is, i got stuck at a library though...

FYI, a way to avoid damage to your fuel pump, is never letting it get below 1/4 of a tank of gas, when this happens the pump has to work harder at times.

^^^I knew that part, but I recently learned that it's more than just the obvious reasons- I didn't know the gasoline actually keeps the pump running cool!

Yea, I feel a little better about it today. It just sucks that things are constantly being replaced these days, and my friends think BMW's are a POS because of what they see me go through. They never see the connection to attribute it to the high mileage on the car. And then all the money I spend on it, but hell, it still beats having monthly car payments and a higher insurance rate

And the ride? Ohhh the feel of driving a BMW, no matter how old it is

Man, I know how you feel... just like when my water pump fell off a while back. I've decided early on though that I could really do nothing but laugh at any "enforced car expenditure". If I wanted excitement/trouble free motoring I would have bought a Toyota.

^^^Amen to that. Just a little warning about the E39 V8s, they are still labor and cost intensive. Ask me how I know

. Everytime I replace a part or do something on my car, my fiance questions whey I bought such a high maintenance car. She compares the maintenance of my car to her acura integra. But the driving experience between the two speaks for itself.

Anyhoo, I popped the new fuel pump in this afternoon and she started right up . . I can see now that the old one had been having a hard time for a while now because the car runs so much smoother with the new one

Here's a pic of the old one, pretty nasty . . looks like the return hose was leaking.
