Fault codes - got a bavauto diagnostic tool
Anyone know what it means when your engine diagnostic tells you the following things are wrong:
Secondary air system flow too low - cyl 1-3
Secondary air system flow too low - cyl 4-6
Misfire detected in cylinder 1.
These are probably the issues causing my car to lose power all of a sudden in the midst of vibrations. I am assuming that the secondary air unit (is this a secondary air pump?) is not giving the engine enough oxygen to the motor and is causing cylinder 1 to misfire. Do you think it might be a block in the airway or do you think something has to be replaced? Any ideas?

hmmm. i don't think the air pump is directly related to giving the engine is air. that would be your actual air intake. in which case if you feel it is a lack of air flow, check the throttle body and MAF for beign dirty and other possible obstructions, make sure the throttle body opens smoothly.
but how much was the tool? I would be really interested in getting one. It sounds like a really good value.

I'm not sure what part of the intake system would be considered secondary. Air box,Throttle body, Maf, any tears in the intake hoses? I would start there first. Vacuum leaks? With the 96 year onward being OBD II, I would think an OBD II scanner would also work.

$150. Its a great value. Pop it in, and it will even reset your oil light and inspection lights for you.... I like it a lot.
Thanks for the input. I'll check those things out. I wonder if the misfire code I got was due to a bad spark plug? Maybe a bad coil too... I'll take her apart this weekend and do some investigating...
