Warning light

Hi all, I have a 1995 318is, I had a warning light come on tonight, it is on the bottom of the dash slightly to the right and is a red circle with two broken lines on either side (like two broken brackets), can anyone tell me what it is for?

It means the sun is shining too brightly. Park the car in the shade for a while, and the warning light should go away.

Ha ha ha, just kidding, welcome to UnitedBimmer
It's the brake lining wear indicator, telling you that you need new brake pads. You'll need new brake wear sensors too, since the light came on. But they don't cost much. Pick them up from the dealer, or buy them online, and have your mechanic slap them in

You need to check to see if it's the front or rear brakes. Check the front first, they usually wear quicker then the rear.

Yeah, it's the brake wear indicator. The sensors are on the Driver's front, and passenger's rear wheels, IIRC. Either one may be bad. Probably the front set, though.

I am going to book into the local BM Workshop here in Auckland and get them to fix, it seems I am going to have to replace the disks too.

Good deal. Get it done, shouldn't be too painful on the wallet/billfold, and you won't have to worry about them for a long time
