Regarding about the vanos noise. I know it makes it ““click click click” noise at the vanos area. What if I just ignore the sound and live with it. Can it damage the engine because of the vanos sound?
I have list of what to do with my car in July. Like 1) AC tensioner
2) Replacing the B- pillar
3) Centre AC flap
All those parts are pretty expensive and I have no money to cure the vanos sound!! :(
Thanks in advance
"Z" - the vanos noise is only when you first start up up correct? What weight motor oil are you using? If the noise is a "light ticking" or only when cold - just switching to a heavier weight oil will help. A synthetic or syn - blend will also help. BMW offers a shim kit but it's expensive & labor intense. I'd go the heavier weight oil (especially in your region of the world)
^^^I've only heard of these shim kits for the 5 series, but I can't be too sure on that.
Yes. After long distance drive, the sound will be gone.
After parked it one hour and start it again, the sound will appear again and gone again.
The dealer use Shell Ultra AB, (5W-30 :Duesky's research)
I post this topic at Bimmerwerkz.
Tiggerhapi mentioned solenoid.: dunno:
Switch to a heavier weight oil and you'll be good. If the noise was constant I'd say replace the vanos solenoid or go with the repair kit. But if it's only when cold, it's the vanos' building oil pressure at initial start up. (It's BMWs' compromise - if they had high output oil pumps it would be spitting out gaskets at higher RPMs)
