E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I'm fixing my car, and I couldn't be more excited!
So, I decided to keep my car and buy a motorcycle on the side. Sweet. Anyway, I'm going to fix it up and make it all perfect and I couldn't be more excited.
Here's the list I made in History class:
Interior:
Redo headliner
Color match the sideskirts
Paint my bumpers for sure and maybe the door handles?
Fix my saggy glovebox
Buy a new passenger window switch
Reupolster my bubbly door panels
Fix my heated seat and stich the seat seam back together
Exterior:
New rim for my bent one
Blower resistor
Clean ICV
Try and find my electrical problem
Replace my power steering hoses, they leak
Install new shocks all around
Install new brakes
MAYBE?:
Add real wood accents?
Add red LED lighting (like the E39 5-series) to light up the shifter and such?
I can't even control myself. I have been wiggling and jumping around about fixing it for about a week now. I had to tell you guys.
Does anyone else turn into a small child whenever you plan to fix your car?
PS, I'm really excited. Your thoughts?

Hey witeshark, what part of Miami are you in? I'm down that way somewhat regularly.

You better conn them into helping with the front struts, too. They're a PITA when you do it all by yourself
Turn into a child? No. All I can think of is how much I gotta spend, and how painful the ground is gonna be when I crawl underneath. How my chest and arms will hurt like hell from pulling, tugging and pushing wrenches and other crap from awkward positions

Cool... if I were you, I'd pass on the Maybe list. The LED lighting isn't really worth it, plus, I don't know if it'll even look good, ya know? The wood... if you want it sporty, get aluminum instead, assuming ur interior isn't tan like mine... otherwise, wood would look better, but not neccessary.
Cosmetics should take a back seat to mechanicals, ie. brakes and shocks, hoses and the rest on your exterior stuff. The bent rim, I'd say, try to have it bent back by a garage, if not possible, junkyard one, or... Click here<--- did a quick search, could be better ones out there.
If money is available, redo your seats, the door switch, ect. Just focus on that after you did the important maintanence stuff.
And, I know exactly how you feel... giddy and all...

Mullet, with some of that it sounds like you may be trying to grasp at straws. I'd slow down a tad. Do major stuff, first. Mechanical shit is a DEFINITE if your car isn't running up to par. Then, I'd go w/big ticket items that really have an impact (major body work/rims). And in the meantime, do any very minor things that you may be able to do without swapping anything out: ie, if you can fix your glovebox w/out changing it out, etc. As for the electrical problem, see if you can find a place that'll do free estimates or reasonably priced estimates. Have them find the problem, give you a quote, and take it from there. You may be able to fix it yourself after that, maybe you won't. Who knows??? But, that's how I'd try to do it.
Doughboy, how do you like your tan interior? I like it, but I'm finding that I can't do much with it. I'm thinking of getting more black in there som
Witeshark, that's cool man. You've got a PM. I didn't want to keep flooding this post.

I liked it at first, but now, it seems too tame for me. But I'm stuck with it, and that's that, as I really don't want to invest in a total make over. But, I'll tell you this though, as I don't have tints, having a lighter colored interior has some benifits, ie I don't get hot seats. At least, not as bad as someone with a black interior.
But, yea, the only matching interior accent is the wood. Aluminum/Titanium just don't do it.

I was thinking about upholstering black leather over the center strip of the seat, and up under the headrest (maybe even up and over the headrest). Other than that, though, I don't know how much more can be done w/out spending a huge amount of cream cheese. I dont have tint on my ride yet. I'm in FL - the tan helps, but slightly. . . . only slightly. When I get out of work that leather is HELLACIOUS!!!! Have to give the car a minute to air out and release some heat. It's BAD.

Leave the moon roof open, let the air vent out, get that tint, and it'll cool down. But man, in a few years, I may end up down there, and though i don't mind the weather all that much, i would mind the constant heat....
But, yea, sticking in black inserts... eh, don't know. Seems expensive nonetheless. Gotta take those seats out, cut out the seams, match the pattern.... ect. But, if it makes you happy, do it man.
Sorry mullethunter... small sidetrack....

it's okay dough, and btw, i am going to do the major things first: rim, a/c thing, electrical thing and power steering hoses.
cosmetic things come last, i know that.
and i am doing all the work myself and my dad owes me $$$$ from me getting scholarships and all, so i have most of it payed for, i just have to find the time this summer
side note: it's a 318, i can't really go for the sporty look without feeling like a douche, plus i'm in love with my mom's e39 luxury package
