do you mean coil packs for the engine ignition or springs?
yes there is a difference in springs, people swap them all the time, you should look into the shocks as well as the rest of your suspension as well, such as bushings, ball joints, tie-rods, strut hats, RTAB's, LCAB's....

I believe there is also a difference with the coil packs for the engine ignition, too. The OBD2 coil packs are much more compared to OBD1.

If yours are old and not working well, then yes, you would notice a nice difference.

Storamin is right, but there isn't much of a difference between the regular E36 and the M3 coil packs. In terms of power output - No. It's more cost effective to replace pulleys or do internal work such as cams than to invest in extremely expensive coil packs. Unless you go FI and have already done serious engine re-enforcement work and have a custom ECU, you wont notice anything.
New parts are better than old, but you won't notice their effects unless you've done lots of other things.

If you do go that route, you need to replace them all so they are matched, and then you need to worry about using the correct spark plugs. Example: most E36's will not run well with +4's, some run just fine, some REQURE copper +2's (OEM style) or they wont run right at all without them - extremely rough idle, etc etc. Do a search on spark plugs and you'll notice there's a huge debate on what works and what does not. What does work are OEM copper +2's, but they are expensive from the dealer.

Honestly, if you need replacements, just get regular coils. They are leaps better than what american cars use anyways. You can gain power elsewhere much cheaper.

If you have to replace them, you might as well go with the 'performance' aftermarket ones, I think they might even be cheaper than the BMW ones.
