E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
I did the dumbest thing. I mean unforgivably dumb. But it is worth sharing. I was backing my car up the hill a few fett with the door open and I forgot about the telephone pole. I didn't do any body damage, but I did break my door brake.
For those who don't know the door break is the thing that keeps your door from flying out uncontrolled when you open it. it also keeps you from stressing the hinges.
I ordered the part from the dealer (only $35) and took the door apart. fortunately once you pop the pin the rod comes off and once the door panel is off it is 2 bolts (size 10) and the brake assembly comes off. it takes some fiddling and a lot of cursing to get the new part in the tiny hole but it goes in and bolt it back up and you are all set. Very easy but I wish I wasn't so stupid to begin with.
back when i have my pos saturn, i forgot to put the e-brake on when i filled up for gas, and it being in neutral (stick shift), it rolled backwards with the door open away from the pump and towards the filling station itself. the door bent completely back (like in tommy boy) and i had to jump inside my rolling car to slam on the brakes.
all the while, like 20 people are staring at me because it was rush hour on a major road.
yep, i'm just as cool as you! except the part about how i didn't replace any parts because the car sucked ass and there where no dents because satty's are plastic pieces of shit.
ha! i'm dumb too!

My e-brake in my old '84 camero didn't work along with the fact it didn't shift into park all the way, and one day I got off work, went out to my car and it had rolled accross the parking lot into the fence. I'm glad it didn't hit anyone elses car!
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
it's all better though, and to make it up to her I replaced the other speaker in the passenger door. took me all of about 30 mins and that's cause I dropped the door brake in the door and had to get my son to get his small hand in there to retrieve it for me. and since I didn't hyperextend the hinge it was ok, I didn't even scratch my door panel.
