Question Blower Resistor or something else?!?!?

Okay, so I'm trying to actually fix my poor little car. Here's the question of the week:

My A/C is crazy. It's hot outside. I'm upset.

I use the A/C on 1, 2, or 3 most of the time. Until it shuts off. Then I can only use 4 until 1, 2, or 3 decide to work. The AutoHaus of Clayton (the stealership in the area) says that it is the blower resistor. Are they right? Are they trying to steal from me again?

Just in case you don't know, I have a 1993 with the analog dials.

Your thoughts...

Sounds right actually. I had only 0 or 4 working and that was the problem. (Now of course the fan blower doesn't work at all)

That would be the first thing I would check, the "resistor pack".

Yep, dealer is right; it is a common issue as the units get older.

I don't have a DIY, but this is a pretty easy fix. You gotta take off the driver's side under-dash padding. Then take out that metal knee-bolster.

Get a flashlight, because this part sucks. There is, on the HVAC case (by the firewall) a small brown plug. IIRC, it's square-shaped, and has one 4? prong connecter on it. Unhook the connecter, and give a gentle tug on the brown square. That's the resistor pack. Installation is the reverse of removal.

You might want to give a closer look at that connector, I can't remember off-hand whether there is a clip that holds it to the HVAC case or not.

Hope that helps!

Theres no clip holding it in at all just give it a slight tug once you remove the harness and then it will pop out and yes using a good amount of light helps out alot. I removed the plastic knee bolster as well as the metal foam one as well so I could see it and whoalaa my a/c is working on all settings again.
