My first guess is a kick down switch. A downshift switch for automatics, forces a downshift if the pedal is floored

I have it, it's like a throttle or gas pedal stoper, if you hit the gas that "switch" will stop it at 3/4 of the way, then it will get a bit stiffer to go full throttle....

Its a kickdown switch as its called. Once the gas is pushed hard enough to activate it it basiclly just throws more fuel into the engine.
