Going back to the chip what do the manufacters recommend? Exactly. Another thing you might want to think about is the fuel in Europe is some gross stuff compared to American fuel. In our fuel we have more detergents that help the fuel burn cleaner. Yes, you should run a tank of 90 or above octane every once in a while. It helps. But, a BMW can run on gas that to us, make us cringe on the idea. They run just as good if they were using our gas. BMW's are great for the fact on how they run. When you drive them. Adding that chip is going to improve your performance of the car, but the question is are you going to use that perfomance?

I like the dinan software personally, but it costs an arm and a leg and it specifically works with their bolt ons.

For one thing the U.S. mandates a basic guide line for all states. California added to that. Another thing the their transportation department has recomended speed of 130km in dry conditions. And ya, it easy to get fifty horsepower out of car. People do it all the time, hence comparing it to tuned 328.

^Yea... ok, anyway...

Dinan540, the cost of a chip for the E36's aren't that much really from Dinan. Compared to a conforti chip...

Dinan E36 Chip

For a Conforti on an E36, it would be from a little under $300 to just under $500 depending on mods.

the s50 & s52 engines aren't anything like their eurospec counterparts. i believe somewhere a bmw tech told someone they are actually just 328 blocks reworked.

Oh, and the speeds are governed because, well, we have speed limits in the US, unlike on certain routes in Europe. I could go on a rant on euro_driver, but that's not the point of this thread.....

Really? Care to elaborate? If we're talking E36, the E36 M3 (US) is ~240hp, correct? Stock E36 328i (US) is around 190hp. If tunned.... your talking what...like a supercharger? Then of course it'll be the same. I know that if I were to bring my 328i (E46) to AA and get their charger, I'd get pretty damn close to the E46M3.

Ah... makes more sence So M3 to M3. Curious, the euro-M3's engine looks exactly like the M5's, maybe just a smaller bore down to 3.0L. But yea, they look totally different, M3 to M3.

Well, one of the neatest things about the euro engine is the induvidual throttle bodies. I love the look of those bad boys.
