Big Bore Throttle Body

I just came across this in a magazine. www.westcoastriots.com. I know Dinan also offers a bigger throttle body. Anyone have one on their car? Just curious. no money.

hmm... looks interesting. I'm sure it's only for the E36 models...not that I could really afford it. I'm curious to know the same... would it really be useful? Are gains that noticable? 3-8rwhp.

Hey there!

As you can see, I went the full Dinan tuned route on my E60 545i sports sedan. When combined with their high flow throttle body, high flow carbon fiber intake system (with dual intakes), and free flow exhaust, Dinan has dyno certified an increase of 25 HP and 20lb ft of torque at the flywheel.

Since I don't have a G-Meter to validate/test their claims, I can only base the perceived improvement on my seat of the pants impression here. However, Dinan does carry a very solid reputation.

I will tell you this though. The power gains, both in sound output and performance is very, very noticeable. This is particularly true at wide open throttle above 3K rpms. The pull is amazing, while the rumble is truly music to my ears.

What I really like most about Dinan is it's enhanced power/tortue gains, yet still very refined power and civil in overall driveability. Even more impressive is their wares are all full warranted bumper-to-bumper for 4 years or 50K miles. Fyi, I also went with their Dinan Camber Plates (for increased negative camber and reduced understeer for razor sharp turn in/handling).

Ditto on their Dinan/Brembo Gran Turismo big brake kit on all fours, and their proprietary lightweight 19 x 9" (front) and 19 x 10" (rear) rims, shodded on Bridgestone Potenza high performance RFTs. The overall package has been truly sublime and amazing. Have taken an already solid drivers's car to yet another performance level in every respect.

To be sure, there's lots of competing vendors out there to choose from for your mods. However, Dinan engineering is perhaps the premier BMW tuner in North America, having been around for over a quarter century. Additionally, it was really convenient having all this tuning upgrades done at my local BMW dealership too, who's a participating Dinan certified dealer. I highly recommend them to anyone seeking reliable and quality oriented improvements.

Well, according to the Dinan website:

Intake 999.00
exhaust 1399.00
throttle body 599.00
camber plates 249.00
Brembo brake kit 6390.00
wheels 5296.00

TOTAL 14932.00

That doesn't incude price for install.

You're right on here. Also picked up a $1,000 credit on my stock OEM 18' sport wheels (had only 3K miles on them). So, with the new Bridgestone Potenza Performance RFTs I also ordered, plus install, shelled out a mere $20,000. The folks at BMW of San Francisco really did a heck of a job partnering with Dinan to make this all come together for me.

As I understand it today, my car is still the only E60 5 series in the greater Bay Area to have undergone these extensive Dinan mods.
That's a lot of $$$'s for sure. But you simply can't begin to measure the huge amount of sheer pleasure, fun and excitement everytime I get behind the wheel.

Amazing what those folks at Dinan can do in concert with BMW's.
Again, I highly recommend the Dinan route. Please let me know if you do have further questions. BEST REGARDS!

for that kind of money i hope you got more than 20hp at the flywheel. for that moeny you probably could of had a custom turbo or super charger built. nice car but you paid way too much for what you have.

and the general consensus is that big bore throttle bodies are useless.

holy sheet! that is FAR too much money for mods. DINAN is great and all, but SHIT.

As someone already said, you could have had a custom turbo set-up and seen a 150whp increase at least.
