understeer ssk

i'm looking to order this kit in a couple days...
E36 328/M3 Short Shift Kit - $85
http://understeer.com/onlinestore-shifters.shtml

i wanted some opinions from people that have bought this exact kit before. is it worth it? do you notice a pretty big difference in shifting?

also, if someone has experience with the Optional modified selector rod for $30 from understeer, please contribute

lastly...
has anyone done that cheap selector rod thing with the solder...
http://understeer.com/cheapwsr.shtml
opinions??

i'm mostly looking to get opinions on the ssk and also wether the $30 selector rod is worth it, or should i just go with the solder

thanks guys... please post only if you've had experience

I have never done a SSK, mainly because I have an auto

BUT, everyone I talk to that has one, loves it, and it's also one of the first mods many people with manuals do.

I don't know if any one on ub.c has the Understeer kit...but I have talked parsonally w/ various members of *ahem* another bmw forum including Chris and everyone seems to like/love it.

They convinced me, I'm picking one up this summer

me thinks its a good mod.. i would do it myself if i wasnt p00r.

I would just go with the solder, but i really have no idea what the benifits to the upgraded selector are.

SSK kits are definetely FTW.. dont know which one it is, maybe the UUC one, but the one ive had was really cool and shifting was really, really smooth

also, get a clutch stop, that will seriously cut ur 0-60 time if you can shift that much faster

Or make your own. It'd probably cost $5 from Home Depot or Lowes.

yes, aquire one whicever way youd like, but dont do it if your still learning how to drive a manual transmission, because if you come to drive someone else's car ur gonna suck at it..

The understeer.com SSK is the same shifter as the z3 M which is the same as the uuc, but far less. Get it.

I went the very cheap route and bought a used M5 shifter, which has a shorter throw then my 540i. The M5 shifter isn't as short as the understeer, but short enough.

The problem with SSK is that if the throw is too short, it is easy to mis-shift say from 5th to 3rd. People will deny that they do this, but on the track when you heading into a turn in 5th and need to be in 3rd when you come out of the turn, it happens and you can over-rev your engine. With that said, I love the shorter throw myself.

The kit for the 325 is an M3 lever.. and the M3/328 is the MZ3 shift lever. Nice reduction in throw.
