E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
Yea, so there's a rumor going around that you can heat up US spec headlights and the plastic lense will separate, allowing you to install halos. So in the tradition of the TV show Mythbusters, I volunteered to risk mine, and threw them in at 300 degrees for about 20min. Nothing. Nada. The glue wasn't budging for shit. So don't even bother . . end of story
That would have justified my itching to get euro elipsoids Eventually I'll get them, I just can't part with money too easily. I'll debate over something forever before I go and buy it.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
It actually started with this guy: http://www.geocities.com/jvxdriver/eagle_eyes.htm and the idea made its way to another BMW forum. I guess it works for those cheesy Honda aftermarket lights, but not on a Bimmer.
I got a set of LED halos on eBay, and before you say it, I want a subdued look, the CCFL's are too bright for my taste . . yea, I'll work on my taste later More important, given the transmission problem I'm having, I don't wanna spend a few hundred on lighting if the tranny isn't gonna hold up for much longer. If and when she goes, I'm probably gonna go with a 5'er instead of getting a new tranny.
So besides being dimmer than CCFL's, are there other bad things to consider about LED's??
So sell the car now and buy the 5er when the car is in running condition...
Nah. I'm sort of playing Russian Roulette with the 325. I won't get much for it either way, being a '92. And putting out money for a 5 series isn't a priority right now, compared to school and home improvements. Besides, I also own a minivan, and the Bimmer may last longer than I'm expecting, who knows. I was just saying that if I were to replace the 3, it would be a 5.

Dude first off... That method does work... I don't know about the temp u used but I have done it before I got pics somewhere in my pc... But what I did I preheated the oven @ 500 dugreez put them in for like 20 mins and it came apart with some help... I had someone hold the housing while I pried... so it does work...
second... keep that beauty (I would like to have a car that color), and make that your toy! while you get the 5er... Remember our meet we had... still trying to convince wifie to get the E46 M3 or just the E46 330xi i think it is... but she want a Landrover LRV3... I say keep it! You will miss her if you let her go!
^^^500 degrees?!! Holy shit, you're crazy. I was afraid to go past 300. I guess I could see how that might work . . too late now anyway. I went with an even crazier solution: my trusty Dremel and some silicone
