New security system

The new system is that nobody is gonna want my car...

The other day I was headed to swim practice in the wee hours of the morning and, to my suprise, there was a tree that was leaning over the road. It was imediately after a curve in the road, so I did not have time to stop. My first reaction was braking, which didn't help because there were small twigs everywhere that rolled under my car. Since I could not stop the only option was to go under the tree, where a large branch waited for me. It pushed in my nose panel, popped out my kidneys, and took off a fan blade. Just got off the phone with my insurance, and I'll be taking it in for an estimate on monday. Wish me luck!

heres the pic:

Nothing a little metalwork can't fix. Hopefully in the process it'll take out some of the rock chips that are in there.

Wow that sucks. My car went through something like that. Its gonna be really expensive to fix judgeing by that pic. Since the hood is only dented they may not have to repaint the whole thing which would save a lot. It didnt scratch the bumper or anything did it? cause that just adds outrages amounts to the cost.

Well that wasn't nice of mother nature. Good luck, hope it doesn't take too long to get done. So that BMW commercial where the lady swerves around obstacles in the road is bullshit, huh? I always had my suspicions

Thanks guys! There is no damage to the bumper, which is def good cost wise. And the commercial would have been true if there wasn't little twigs everywhere that made it impossible to control where I was going. Thanks again, and I'll keep you all updated

I just got off the phone with the body shop, and they gave me an estimate of a little less than $1,000. They will be replacing the kidneys (obviously), replacing one of the plastic peices under the hood, and will be repainting the entire hood. The job should take a little longer than a week, mostly because of parts.

Wait, only $1000 and they have to replace the hood? How does that work? The kidneys and grille surrond have to replaced and painted, but im pretty sure than can just work out the dent in the hood and repaint it rather than having to replace it.

No, they aren't replacing the hood. Yes, they are taking the dent out and repainting the entire hood. They are replacing the plastic peice under the hood (the one that is taken out to access the headlight bolts), the name escapes me right now. The nose panel is also being replaced. God bless only having a $100 deductable

Ok, from what you said it made it seem like they had to replace the whole hood. I was like wtf. And the plastic peice the kidney's sit in is called the grille surround.

We aren't talking about the same thing. The piece is physically under the hood, like you can't see it unless you open the hood. What happened was the branch hit the air scoop behind the kindneys, which cracked this piece. Not sure if that clears things up or not...I would take a pic, but my car is at the shop.

The piece with 4 screws close together right? Is that the radiator cowling or something, I know the piece you are talking about, just not the name..
