after taking business classes for 4 years i can tell you that looking at sunk costs is never what you should do when analyzing a continue vs shut down problem. in your situation you have to look at what you can transfer but forget about the costs that you can't get back believe me no good business does... if you put it back to stock how much you think you could sell it for, then maybe sell some of those mods you took off enought to buy the m3 and transfer the rest on there once you get it.
then buy a damn car charger!!!! plug it into the garage and then you don't have to idle it. when i installed all my systems i had to test and adjust them but didn't wanna suck up exhaust fumes so this is what i used, much better than the alternative

except this isnt a business we are talking about. its a personal car. he could do what you are suggesting, but the car is not what makes him money, so it is an apples to oranges comparison.

hey dude, one thing you need to do now, not wait, is wash your car, that stuff gets really annoying, and im not saying this for sure, but it may hurt your paint, and when you said it was FREEZING COLD outside, maybe your coolant/water mixture wasn't right and the coolant froze, or was it FREEZING COLD in georgia terms?

how come my 94 BMW is all messed up, but my coolant hoses, or anything like that has ever blown, oh wait nvmd I have lower mileage. I hope you get it fixed, I think you might as well keep it seeing that you put a lot of work into it.

my breo had a problem with his 325 overheating when he left it idling to recharge the battery. went to check it after 45 min and it was smoking all over the place and all the coolant had evvaporated. luckily no damage was done. i would just rebuild the 328 and turbo that bitch!

Yup. Coolant can kill paint jobs, that's why we pushed it out of the garage and I hosed it down. As for freezing cold, he means in the 30s-40s, with slight wind chill.

As for another problem, I totally forgot about the idling problems and the exhaust fumes. The exhaust was puffing white smoke, aka, coolant getting into the exhaust ports. So this whole problem could have been that he lost a lot of coolant and that his headgasket was gone to begin with. I now have a feeling that the headgasket is gone and that may be a big problem now. I now also kinda feel at fault for not diagnosing this problem earlier. Sorry Harry. Please forgive me.

I'ld look them over closely - age takes it's toll on them too. They start getting hard & brittle. Factory had an "unsung" recommendation to "suggest to customers to replace all hoses evey 4 years" - I don't know if they say that anymore but it's something that shouldn't be overlooked.
Also, all of you guys should look hard at that top hose connection - it's a common problem when BMW switched to the plastic fitting. It's a stress point with the hose tugging on it and if you overheat (by some bad luck, it also developes internal stress cracks) Just an FYI...

hmm i'll have to try getting a set of new radiator hoses then. I don't know where to go, all the dealerships by me are so overpriced...

I remember for that alternator cooling pipe harry told me his dealership charged around $16 I think, and mine was like $23-25....
