removing read "deck"

Hey everyone, am wanting to change my read "deck" you know, the area under the rear window where your speakers come out and their is your 3rd brake lights, it's kinda a gray-ish color, But I mean, I have no clue on how to get it off, anyone got some ideas?

Btw, I drive a 1996 e36 coupe

First off, go buy yourself a Bentley manual, it will help a ton.

second, dont paint the rear deck cause that wont look good and wont last long. I recommend wrapping the rear deck in alcantara or suede, this way, it looks GREAT and will last much longer.

Trust me, i redye my whoel interior and i deeply regret it, i had to go back and do everyhting again and i went the alcanatar route.

My shop does small alcanatar work, if you sent he rear deck in bare, I bet it could be done for $200 or so.

Dont woryy, am not going to literally paint it, am gonna use fabric die

You might have to remove the C piller covers, and any kind of cover inside the trunk. Ive never done a e36 before so Im not to sure how to. But on e60\'s you have to do eveything I said. Also remove the back seat back rest.

If someone has a bentley manual would you please look this up for me?

Dudesky 06-08-2005 05:20 AM

There\'s nothing in the Bentley manual about removing/installing it. Incidentally, it\'s called the rear parcel shelf. I\'ve done some forum searching for you, and all I could find was how to do it with a sedan, hopefully it won\'t be too different with a coupe.

Basically, the rear seat back has to come out. Pry off the rear door edge molding by the c-pillars. Then there are 4 clips that hold the c-pillar panels on to the body. Pop them off to get the panels out. Then 4 clips hold the parcel shelf along the front edge. Pop those off, and just slide the shelf forward and out.

That\'s a summary of all the threads I\'ve read, hopefully that works out for ya.

Dudesky_E36, you\'re great, thanks a lot, yes it relaly does help, and I think it\'s pretty darn close to what I need to do on the coupe :D
