5-speed conversion.
"hi, my name is nate"
*hi nate*
"thank you, I'm here today because my transmission is an automatic, I have a problem"
*applause*
Ok, that's my AA class, (automatic anonymous). Now I know this question has been beat to death and then twice over on these boards, but I want to know what it takes to convert to a manual tranny from an auto, how much it costs, what parts it takes.
I was just on ebay where I found quite a few M3 5-speeds for a couple hundred, but I dont know what other parts it takes and how much I can expect to pay in labor.

Going rate for ALL the parts for the conversion is $1,400.
And expect around $800 in labor.
Add in unexpected expenses (such as the wrong flange to bolt up to the driveshaft), and you should be able to get out of there for around $2,500.
I'm looking at doing it in the next few weeks. Going out of state this weekend, and I don't want to mess with my car before a long drive, but when I get back, I'm gonna get serious about it.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
Keep in mind though my prices are for a ZF tranny, and high quality parts. You could substitute and get by for a lot less... but if you're doing the conversion, might as well go all the way.
When I do mine, I think I've pretty much decided against the 6-speed, and instead a 5-speed, but also do a lightweight flywheel and short shifter at the same time.
