E36General discussion and technical help for (E36) 1992-1999 3 series cars. 318, 323, 325, 328.
My baby is hurt. Unfortunately I don't have pictures (I didn't have my camera with me and with the holiday the yard where it is at wasn't open today)
An 84 year old lady made a left turn right in front of me and I had to plow her. On the plus side I was wearing my seatbelt and my ABS worked like it was supposed to so nobody got hurt. funniest part of it was my car shoved her out of the way and I was still in my lane after popping her one. Plus the cops found her at fault so it won't go against me.
On the downside I had to leave her out near Philly while I returned to Pittsburgh. They are figuring at first glance at least 10-12k worth of damage. There will be more on this saga as it develops. here's where the damage is:
Well everything on the front end will need to be replaced, the hood will need to be replaced, it folded over about a quarter of the way up and is now touching what was left of the bumper, the side quarter panel is gone, my headlight is gone, everything behind it is gone, the air conditioner compressor took a beating and will need to be replaced, and that's before the hood gets opened, funny thing though my fog light survived it is hanging by the wires but looks intact.
Everything is compressed around the tire and the fan doesn't turn anymore so I couldn't drive it away. And since this is a holiday I can't talk to the insurance adjuster until tuesday. The $10 - $12k number came from the body shop that towed it from the scene. It was a ballpark number. He says I'm lucky cause when the hood comes off its back hinge it usually takes the winshield mine stopped short by a 1/4 inch. They are pissed because I called my mechanic for a reference for where to take it and I am having it towed up there. They really wanted this repair.
On her car the doors got messed up and the rear quarter panel took a beating. She was able to get the gas she stopped in for and drive away. First thing she said when the cop showed up "He didn't even try to stop, I didn't hear any screaching" Guess she never heard of ABS.
That sucks man. Im sorry, thats gonna be a pain to fix.At least now ull be able to upgrade to HID's or something. Hope insurance covers everything.
And becuase they quoted u $10-12,000 as a ballpark, expect it to hit $15,000 easily. The shop that my insurance wanted me to go to originally quoted me $1,600. The shop i ended up taking it knew the second he saw that invoice it was way off. Final damage tally had hit around $3,000.You were smart asking your mech for a refrence too. I was recomend to my body shop by the Southern Alberta BMW Club and im incredbly glad for it.
What stupid women, "he didnt even try to stop"? Thats such a load of bull man. Who wouldnt try to stop if they new they were gonna hit someone? Its old women like her who shouldnt be allowed to drive.
I am worried they might total her, if it gets up around 17-20, it could go either way. Plus with diminshed value, and the fact I have to go out and get her in Bethlehem, PA (which is almost 300 miles from Pittsburgh) they may not want to be bothered.

Well if they do total her we will feel ur pain. But you will always be able to get an M3 if they do.

You should have it towed to Greater Pittsburgh Auto here. They do top notch work, I had my bodykit painted there. I wouldn't want to deal with a bodyshop so far away -- if they don't do as good as you want it could be difficult.
That bites bro, re: "she didn't hear any screaching" - shit she couldn't hear a freight train either. F#$%%g "fossils"... they can't hardly see, can't hear and they drive via braille, but it's always someone elses' fault. I have NO sympathy for old folks driving habits. They need more testing and restrictions for our "elders". What's scarier is that most people driving motorhomes are elderly - just DANDY!
