e36 318is fuel gauge problem
im having a problem with my fuel gauge , everything else is working but the fuel gauge doesent work and the fuel gauge warning light doesent work. ive checked the gauge float and the wiring on it and connections . is there a separate fuse for the fuel gauge? will i need a new cluster?

You could be having a problem with the gauge that was not uncommon when E36s were new, it's a bit odd that it's happening with a car with some years on it. There was some sort of electrical problem, and the solution for me was given by the dealer's service shop, pull fuse #30 or #11 (I'm not sure on those numbers) and leave out for 10 minutes. Reinsert. Cross fingers and see if that solves it.

It could be the unit, but before going to that trouble and expense, double check the fuses that relate to the sending unit and the fuel gauge, I think they are #30 and #11 but I'm not positive. There are at least two involved.
