Fuel starving to no idle
I was driving along quite happily when  engine just stopped. Break-down mechanic thought at first it was a lack of fuel in the tank. But concluded it was fuel pump at fault. I got the car home and put a fuel pressure gauge on pump pressure was OK so with the car now not starting at all I decide to change the fuel filter this did improve things but now I can not get the engine to idle. NOW AT A COMPLETE LOSS ANY IDEAS!! |

The pieces of this puzzle are not fitting together. Can you provide some more detailed description of exactly how it acted/sounded at each step in this process? The car had pressure at the rail but would not start, but then started after you replaced the fuel filter? It sounds like it was flooded. I would suspect the fuel pressure regulator based on what I know so far. Second suspect would be the crank position sensor as those tend to mysteriously come and go when they are failing. |

Hi thanks for posting, the pressure tester was placed on the fuel pump and not the fuel rail sorry don't have the connection for my tester to attach to the rail. The engine seemed starved of fuel so after checking the pump I decided to change the filter as I don't believe it was ever changed. Before changing the filter the car would not start now it fires up but will not idle. Will order a pressure tester gauge connector and a fuel pressure regulator and let you know how I get on thanks. |
